Woodturning - Not Your Everyday French Press
I’ve made plenty of coffee cups but never a coffee maker. So that’s what this weeks project turned into! Thanks for tuning in.
I used 2 species of wood: African rosewood for the body, lid and knob, then white oak dowel for the handle and attachment piece, as well as pewter for the metal inlay. I intended on using sterling silver for the inlay, however, with a 1600+ degree F melting point it proved too hot for the test piece of wood and I found myself with a mini bonfire in the shop. Pewter melts at around 500 degrees F.
I also salvaged my wife’s daily coffee press promising to make her a better one. I hope that was achieved.

Wood Carving - A Jack ‘O Lantern Pumpkin!
Переглядів 8 тис.2 роки тому
It’s pumpkin season! So I decided to carve a Jack o lantern pumpkin out of wood. How to, you might ask? All you need is a chainsaw and a grinder! (The saw mill was really only for the viewer) Yes, I burned through 3 batteries just clearing out the guts. It could have been just 1 battery if the wood was dry enough to break out the square segments after checker-boarding the inside of the pumpkin....
Woodturning - CBD Flower into a Pipe
Переглядів 14 тис.2 роки тому
What can I say? Woodturning a pipe actually turned out pretty cool! What makes it even better is that the entire project was coated with a food grade epoxy. On top of that, the bowl piece is insulated by the glass tube it's set in. It was intentional for the glass tube to come in contact with the raw wood only so it wouldn't heat up any epoxy. Epoxy can definitely be tricky to work with when tr...

Woodturning - A LAVA Lamp
Переглядів 15 тис.3 роки тому
I've gotta say that woodturning a lava lamp ended up being a pretty cool project. It’s something a little different than what I’m used to doing. The most difficult part was coming up with an epoxy-style lava instead of the traditional liquid lava lamp. I also had the option of making only the wooden top and base then using the glass bottle and heat bulb from an actual lava lamp.. but that sound...
Woodturning - Bamboo (From Tropical Storm Fred)
Переглядів 600 тис.3 роки тому
www.etsy.com/shop/PrestonMillerProject First, I'd like to thank Tropical Storm Fred for leaving me some beach treasures while not ripping the roof off of my house! I knew I wanted to do a woodturning project with the bamboo I found, I just wasn't sure which approach to take.. So I decided to take advantage of it's natural architecture and turn it into a water vessel! I've cut bamboo similar to ...
Woodturning - A SOLID Mahogany Desk Fan
Переглядів 45 тис.3 роки тому
Mahogany is a pleasure to work with but when it comes to woodworking and woodturning with such delicate pieces, all you can think to yourself is ‘steady hands’. That was the moto for the entirety of this how to/DIY video. I have to pat myself on the back because I didn’t have a single unplanned crack or break in the wood. To keep it short, it all went perfectly. I have to say that’s the first t...

I live in Menlo Park, California, and I got this story from a guy who used to frequent Peet's coffee shop before I moved here. Mr. Peet used to run his coffee shop in Menlo Park. One of his customers was Sargent Dickason who, when he bought coffee beans, had Mr. Peet blend two or three types together. Mr. Peet liked the flavor of Dickason's blend, so he started selling it to other customers. When he named it, he boosted Dickason's rank to Major.

Probably the best smelling lathe project of _all_ time I would think. Nope.. can't think of anything that would produce a smell more satisfying from a material being turned on a lathe. Brilliant! ☕☕Cheers!

I think this was a neat idea. and i suppose i can understand the color choice for the Resin, but i personally would have gone more clear. Additionally, you do not want to make a permanent seal. those things need to be removed for cleaning as they will collect bacterial and grow mold.

That project was "a miss", IMO. The air pockets in the coffee beans, the odd buldge in the middle of the cup, and the white epoxy just made it look too odd. My recommendation on a design side would be to "float" the coffee beans within a clear or darker transparent epoxy. This would require two epoxy settings; 1) whole coffee beans floating in the void of a cup within a cup, 2) putting that set into a larger cup and filling it completely with epoxy. That way, you can grind away the epoxy without damaging the beans. It'll give the illusion of coffee beans floating in your cofee. NOTE: You could make the first set a lighter coffee color and the final set a clear color. So even when the cup is empty, it still looks like there's coffee in there.

Man, everyone talking about "should have cast it clear!" (Personally, the white still looks really cool) when it looks like the lid is going to spill liquid all over you lol Ideally you'd have some sort of lip on the lid where you can put your bottom lip under the hole so you're able to catch all that liquid. Not sure how to wood turn a lid like that, but *shrug* At leat you'd be able to retry just the lid an not have to redo the whole thing ^^"
